As I was walking home on Christmas Eve, while listening to Don Omar on my headphones and tuned out from the world, this lasy named Doña Patrona, a complete stranger, asked if I could see the angel in the park that was lit up. I said no, so she let me onto her porch to look at it. Then she told me she liked me and took me by my arm and guided me inside her home to look at pictures of her kids, grandkids, in-laws, and herself when she was younger. Her husband then came home and welcomed me. I had never talked to them before, but they were so excited to show me around their house and to have me over. Doña Patrona had me hold her hand as we slowly walked through their house. I could tell that the home was full of memories. They have been married for 60 years. This night reminded me of how welcoming Nicaraguans are. When I kissed them goodbye on the cheek, they thanked me for my friendship and asked me to come back whenever. It turns out they live a mere two blocks away from me.
